In-World Knowledge

Arcane Practitioners Club (APC)

  • Lyssandra is interested in purchasing Mage scrolls containing spells she doesn’t already know, presumably including spellbooks; she likely seeks rare or unusual spells. Pelteon was formerly Lyssandra’s apprentice. [#ArcanePractitionersClub | 2025-03-16; worldbuilding | 2025-03-16]
  • The APC can recharge Mage Power Items. [#ArcanePractitionersClub | 2025-03-16; worldbuilding | 2025-03-16]
  • The APC offers: magic item identification services (50/month, 600/year), apartments for rent, and will buy certain magic items. They can teach most spells plus wizard skills like Thaumatology, Alchemy, and Research. [#loot | 2025-03-15; loot | 2025-03-16; worldbuilding | 2025-03-16]
  • The APC alchemy lab counts as good equipment with no penalty for being a “backpack” lab (though not fine quality). [#loot | 2025-03-16]
  • Lyssandra insists it is called the “Arcane Practitioners Club,” not College. [#loot | 2025-03-16; worldbuilding | 2025-03-16]
  • NPCs met: Only Lyssandra and Pelteon have been met so far. [#ArcanePractitionersClub | 2025-03-16; worldbuilding | 2025-03-16]

Gosterwick

  • Gosterwick was originally a tiny Thorcin farming village. About 20 years ago, an Archontean noblewoman named Lady Alexia moved in with Knights of the Azure Shield, built a keep, and began expanding the village into a town. They tried giving the town an Archontean name but it didn’t stick so most still call it Gosterwick. Probably a couple thousand people there by now. The walled keep is in the northeast by the lake. The rest of the walls are marked out by a dirt berm, but not built yet except for 2 gatehouses. Most of the buildings are in the northeast corner by the keep, with a few buildings like the stables and Arcane Practitioners Club deliberately isolated from the rest. There are a couple of big ugly wooden guard houses sticking up in the empty part of town, to try to make up for the unfinished walls. For a small town there are a lot of services: a couple of inns, 4 full temples as well as some small shrines, a full Archontean-style bathhouse, several bars, a few government buildings, a pawn shop, a money changer, some banking factors, even a bookseller. It has the feel of a boom town. Something is clearly bringing a lot of money into the area and people are moving to Gosterwick to get some of it. As travellers you know of both inns. The Yellow Cloak Inn is good quality at a reasonable price. That’s where all of you were staying. The Stunned Acolyte is much more expensive; apparently that’s where rich people go. The kind of place where you buy dinner with gold instead of silver. [#Gosterwick | 2025-03-16; worldbuilding | 2025-03-16]
  • Torunn the Smith, a big Wiskin woman, is reputedly the best smith in Gosterwick. She personally crafts the highest quality items while apprentices handle most standard work under her supervision. She gave Vael a paid lesson in Weapon and Armor Appreciation. [#loot | 2025-03-16; worldbuilding | 2025-03-16]
  • Shortswords retail for $400; used shortswords sell for 40% of retail unless the seller has Wealth. [#loot | 2025-03-16]

Religious Organizations

  • Uriel Basileon, an archon, wrote to Kel Bormol, Overseer of Thoth, stating that the Second Overseer (Bormol’s assistant) has not dared show himself since his cowardly retreat before the Sortian onslaught. He reportedly cowers within the Tower of Scrutiny, refusing entry to petitioners. [#archive | 2025-03-14; pc-notes | 2025-03-14]
  • The Temple of Demma in Gosterwick is led by someone (name not specified in summary). [#worldbuilding | 2025-03-14]

Rumors & Leads

  • The priests of Mitra seek help tracking down a missing priestess named Lillian, last seen near the huge overgrown Thicket by the cliff of Arden Vul. A shepherd claims he saw her being taken by walking pigs up the cliff into the ruins of Arden Vul. If you can find and return this Lillian, there’s a big reward posted in Newmarket. [#Rumors | 2025-03-10; Rumors | 2025-03-14]
  • Many devoted followers of Thoth (“Thoth’s Beloved”) were buried in catacombs located just under the pyramid, guarded by Thoth’s power which prevents intruders from entering. [#Rumors | 2025-03-14]
  • Thoth represented the light of knowledge that erased the darkness of ignorance; Thoth priests were obsessed with light and every one of their Halls remains brightly lit with Thoth’s bright, clear light. [#Rumors | 2025-03-14]
  • A massive road, built for creatures larger than humans, runs for a mile through the caverns. If you can get on it, you’ll be able to reach the goblin king and the troll thegn. [#Rumors | 2025-03-10; Rumors | 2025-03-14]
  • The caverns under Arden Vul produced a large supply of a wondrous orange mineral that proved to have very many arcane uses. The city was abandoned when the mines ran dry. [#Rumors | 2025-03-10]

Commerce & Services

  • Jeremias Smalleaf, the money changer, identifies well-known coins for free and only charges fees for actual moneychanging services. He handles coins and gems and also lends money. [#loot | 2025-03-16]
  • The two mages at the Arcane Practitioners Guild identify magic items for $100. [#loot | 2025-03-15]
