Distilled In-World Knowledge
Beacon & Access
- The party has (as far as they know) taken over the Beacon levels, which are now freely navigable with teleport rugs for safe passage to/from town. Each PC can choose between Gosterwick downtime activities (alchemy, research in town, shopping, carousing, training with trainers in town) and Beacon downtime activities (research with the books you found, language training with Akla-Chah, improving your new base). [beacon | 2025-11-16]
- Any oval keycard opens the secret door to the closet off the reading room via a low-tech physical mechanism; lockpicks might also work if properly applied. [beacon | 2025-11-16]
- The colored keycards (2 × rust, brown, sky blue, pale green, orange) work to open any of the iris doors in the party’s space by holding them near the door. The metallic ones (copper, bronze, platinum) don’t work. The party has 6 colored keycards, so each PC can have one to move around freely. [beacon | 2025-11-16]
Research & Knowledge
- The book “Rudishva Devices” contains pictures matching items found by the party, allowing identification of loot. Experimenting with devices might be somewhat safer if you open the book to the right page and read all the warnings there before you touch anything. The writing is confusing and some devices look the same, so it might make sense for others to repeat research before messing with items, if prioritizing safety over speed. [rudishvaartifacts | 2025-11-16; archive | 2025-11-16; town-rolls | 2025-11-16]
- Available research topics at the Beacon library: Rudishva language, Arden history, Archontean golem-like constructs, “Rudishva spirits,” wars between Archonteans and Varumani, Survival/Naturalist/Alchemy, Rudishva artifacts, Arcanum, and gems. One topic per week. [archive | 2025-11-16; town-rolls | 2025-11-16]
- Vael’s blackboard notes (in Mithric) reveal: The Beacon is a vehicle requiring fuel; the Arcanum’s purpose is unknown; the board contains lists of stars with Rudishva glyphs and letter/number codes. [pc-notes | 2025-11-16; archive | 2025-11-16]
Rudishva Crew Assessments (Archontean Perspective)
- Crallicarus: “utterly useless,” an actor type organizing dramatic readings. [pc-notes | 2025-11-16; archive | 2025-11-16]
- Sakorikus: surgical assistant. [pc-notes | 2025-11-16; archive | 2025-11-16]
- Ravatorus: sage of subterranean life. [pc-notes | 2025-11-16; archive | 2025-11-16]
- Isocrates: warrior, co-founded the Order of Subterranean Knights. [pc-notes | 2025-11-16; archive | 2025-11-16]
- Melacorius: warrior of suspect loyalty. [pc-notes | 2025-11-16; archive | 2025-11-16]
- Nacalorus: Rudishva legionary. [pc-notes | 2025-11-16; archive | 2025-11-16]
Town Rumors & Services
- Vallium heard from Azgallatu the cleric (returned from Newmarket to Gosterwick) that Lord Iskander Burdock, Lady Alexia’s half-brother, has been recruiting adventurers to delve into the Halls. He’s been offering equipment in exchange for a 50/50 split of the treasure. [archive | 2025-11-12; town-rolls | 2025-11-12]
- Theopilos the locksmith charges $25 to copy the Beacon key, describing it as very large and complicated. [archive | 2025-11-12; town-rolls | 2025-11-12]
Training & Advancement Rules
- Language learning via intensive study: 1 point per week of downtime spent almost entirely on language study, progressing from Broken (Written or Spoken) to Accented. Native fluency takes significantly longer unless you have Language Talent; most people never get to Native in languages they didn’t learn young. [archive | 2025-11-16]
- Languages can be consolidated into Language Talent provided no language gets worse and total points in languages + talent does not decrease. [archive | 2025-11-16; questions-for-gm | 2025-11-16]
- Primary and secondary attributes (ST, DX, IQ, HT, Will, Per) require no training until reaching very high levels. [archive | 2025-11-16; questions-for-gm | 2025-11-16]
- Laser beam weapons are trained by repeatedly pointing what appears to be the right end at a target and manipulating the firing control until proper handling is learned through trial and error. Once you get to that point, you make some targets and fire at them many, many, many times. If you have enough ammo to train enough, you can eventually put a point into the skill. If you run out of ammo first, you can’t. This goes much faster if you have a trainer who already knows the skill. [archive | 2025-11-16; questions-for-gm | 2025-11-16]

Beacon
- GM (2025-11-16): Downtime will work a bit differently now that you have (as far as you know) taken over the Beacon levels. Those two maps are now freely navigable for players, as long as you have teleport rugs set up to get you back and forth to town safely without risking falls or random encounters. Each PC ca…
- GM (2025-11-16): Things you know about the Beacon: 1. Any of the oval keycards works to open the secret door to the closet off the reading room. That is a low-tech physical mechanism; you just jam a card in there. (Lockpicks might also work if you knew how to use them.) 2. Any of the colored (2 * rust, brown, sk…

- GM (2025-11-16): You read the book “Rudishva Devices”. It has pictures of a bunch of Rudishva devices, and some of the pictures look like some of the stuff the others found, so you can now put names on items in the loot sheet. You also think that experimenting with the devices might be somewhat safer if you ope…

- Grudge Brigade (2025-11-11): In the interest of session time, can the party get a one-time instant teleport each to the broken level and the not ready level, as both were reached in actual play but exploration was prevented for technical reasons?
- GM (2025-11-11): Not an actual teleport, but I’ll do a a one-time fast-forward to each, the first time they’re at the top of the Cruise Director Plan. (Probably 2 separate weeks.)
- GM (2025-11-12): Alchemy: success, discount Locksmith: Theopilos explains that this is a very large and very complicated key, so a copy will cost $25. Carousing: Vallium hears from Azgallatu the cleric (who was in Newmarket with Lillian but is back in Gosterwick) that Lord Iskander Burdock (Lady Alexia’s half bro…
- Grudge Brigade (2025-11-14): Answer after game: (1) Lake Crododile mundane animal? (2) Lake Turtle mundane animal? (3) Lake Frog mundane animal?
- Grudge Brigade (2025-11-14): (Address after session; I don’t think Nature is quite that harsh. DFS p.6) Nature envelops druid or remains visible, but isn’t pristine. -1. Examples: Dungeons and mines, with immeasurable tons of soil and burrowing things above, below, and to all sides. Druid wholly surrounded by artificial str…
- Ioannes (2025-11-14): Things were deliberately eased from GURPS DF to DFRPG because if you’re spending your time in dungeons, druid was a really bad pick
- Grudge Brigade (2025-11-14): So you’re saying Drip might be using the DF table?
- Ioannes (2025-11-14): I’m saying nothing, just pointing out Kromm’s logic. He might be, he might not be.
- GM (2025-11-14): I’m using DFRPG. The intent here is that semi-natural underground places give -1, deep dungeons give -2, and crazy alien places give -3
- Vallium Halcyon (2025-11-15): Value of Vallium’s Fine, Balanced, Accuracy +1, Puissance +1, Penetrating Weapon (2) Broadsword is $14825?
- GM (2025-11-15): Rarities Factor charged you retail for it, no discount, no markup. Checking
- Vallium Halcyon (2025-11-15): I see a mistake on my end…
- GM (2025-11-15): $19800
- Vallium Halcyon (2025-11-15): Yes, that’s what I get now.
- GM (2025-11-16): Which book to you want to research? (Topics include Rudishva language, Arden, Archontean golem-like constructs, the “Rudishva spirits”, wars between Archonteans and Varumani, Survival/Naturalist/Alchemy, Rudishva artifacts, Arcanum, and gems.)
- GM (2025-11-16): One per week
- Vael, Zuljita (2025-11-16): Current plan: after sorting the loot, vael plans to spend almost the whole week learning rudishiva from and teaching archontean to the hologram. Is that kosher to buy broken speaking and writing of the language this week?
- GM (2025-11-16): I’ll say 1 point per week of downtime spent almost entirely learning the language. So you can get Broken/Written or Broken/Spoken this week, the other the next week if you again spend most of your downtime on language. Broken to Accented is similar. Native takes a lot longer unless you have Lan…
- Vael, Zuljita (2025-11-16): Does Vael need training for will? I figure he uses it constantly
- GM (2025-11-16): Primary and secondary attributes get enough use that they don’t need training until you reach really high levels. Then maybe you need help.
- Vallium Halcyon (2025-11-16): When it’s convenient, could you please post the notes Vael took from the back of the chalkboard, the ones about the NPCs.
- GM (2025-11-16): Notes from blackboard (in Mithric) - Beacon notes: Vehicle (needs fuel), Arcanum purpose unknown, star/glyph lists, letter/number codes. Rudishva crew assessments (Archontean perspective): Crallicarus (actor type, organizing dramatic readings), Sakorikus (surgical assistant), Ravatorus (sage of subterranean life), Isocrates (warrior, co-founded Order of Subterranean Knights), Melacorius (warrior of suspect loyalty), Nacalorus (Rudishva legionary)
- GM (2025-11-16): Done, pc-notes
- Uvash (2025-11-16): Questions regarding the “laser beams”. How does one train with them? Do they count as edged weapons? Am I allowed to constantly make Dr. Evil jokes when firing the “laser beams”? (The last one is a joke.)
- GM (2025-11-16): To train you point what you think is the right end at a target and manipulate what looks like the firing control and hope you pointed it the right way and triggered it right. If so you figure it out. If you do this enough you figure it out well enough that you know how it works. Once you get t…
- Uvash (2025-11-16): As the Theological Leader of Zorradrim in Gosterwick/Arden Vul, I think that it will be fiineee. They won’t send an inquisition after me.
- Vael, Zuljita (2025-11-16): Can languages be rolled into language talent?
- GM (2025-11-16): Yes, if no language gets worse in the process, and the total points put in languages + language talent does not go down. (So basically if you know a ton of languages you will find out that you actually have Language Talent which explains why you know a ton of languages.)
pc-notes
- GM (2025-11-16): Notes from blackboard (in Mithric) front: Beacon=Vehicle - but how does it move? Fuel is needed. Arcanum - for what?
