Roger the Rapier

Summary

Roger the Rapier is a wizard and the field leader of the Five Fingers of Destiny. He operates in the same areas of Arden Vul as the Right for Riches company and has had several notable interactions with them — sometimes as rival, sometimes as negotiating partner.

Key Interactions

Session 37 — The Ankh-Key Inquiry

Roger met with the Right for Riches company in the waiting area outside King Weskenim’s chamber, pulling them aside for a private conversation. He congratulated them on finding the Scepter of the Goblins before him, then asked whether they had any ankh-shaped keys (like the ones used to open the Obelisks and access the Beacon island). He even produced an ankh-key of his own to show what he was looking for. The party played dumb and showed a ring of ~30 other keys, none of them ankhs.

Note: At this meeting, Vallium pointed out that the Five Fingers actually had six members, not five.

Session 39 — The Thoth Treasury Deal

The Right for Riches company found Roger at the Stunned Acolyte inn in Gosterwick and agreed to his deal: he would show them exactly how he had found the Treasury of Thoth (demonstrating in person at Arden Vul), and in exchange they would give him an ankh-key. Vallium insisted on a live demonstration rather than just being told, and Roger agreed to meet at the Glory of Weskenim at noon on the 26th of Fidios.

Session 41 — The Demonstration

Roger met both parties at the Glory of Weskenim. He arranged for Bottleneck to hold the ankh key in escrow, to be given to the Five Fingers only after the secret was demonstrated. Roger had Jenks sling a Continual Light bullet across the Great Chasm to illuminate the Thoth ibis statue, then flew across to lift the statue’s arm. He then led both groups to the western ibis statue and raised its arm, opening the hidden staircase to the Thoth treasury. He paid Bottleneck a gold piece for his service and collected the ankh key.

Session 45 — Beacon Island Scouting

Spotted on the Beacon island; told Vallium the Five Fingers were heading to the ruined palace on the northern end of the island.

Notes

  • Can be treated as distinct from Roger (former Kronos employee) until confirmed otherwise.
  • Leads a group sometimes called “Five Fingers of Destiny” despite having six members (as of Session 37).
