Summary

The Library of Thoth is a Thothian library located near the Well of Light, containing lost and valuable knowledge. The main library room was cleared and its books moved to the Beacon in Session 37. Adjacent to the library is a secret room — the Secret Library of Thoth — containing a much rarer and more dangerous collection.

Main Library

  • Contains a locked door opened by Vallium’s key.
  • Located near the Well of Light level, adjacent to the librarian’s chamber.
  • The librarian’s chamber has a fear trap outside it (overcome with Uvash’s Amulet of Courage).
  • In Session 37, the party moved all ~40 books from the main library to their Beacon library, leaving Basil and Stamelis to sort them.

Secret Library (Discovered Session 37)

A secret door on the south wall of the librarian’s chamber leads to a small room with built-in shelves and a central table.

Contents:

  • Approximately 40 books and 20 scrolls — a major cache of Thothian knowledge.
  • Scrawled notes on the table, including a letter from someone named Hellas to Neferet, accusing her of:
    • Necromancy
    • Stealing “some Archon’s circlet” (likely the Iron Circlet of Ghanor)
    • The letter denies Neferet access to the secret library, saying her quarters near the Great Hall were “too exposed.”
  • One magical book — a cursed trap. Its first page contains a title; the next several pages show vivid underground scenes possibly from the Halls of Arden Vul. Opening to the next page caused Vael’s eyes to be magically ripped from his face. He passed out and required Instant Regeneration from Jador the Just at great expense. Vael resolved never to read a magical book again without first casting Analyze Magic for curses.

Note: The party hid the secret library’s contents in a side room at the Beacon away from Stamelis, not wanting him to see what secrets it might contain.

Location

  • Near the Well of Light level.
  • Contains a path to the librarian’s chamber with a fear trap.
  • The main library door is locked (Vallium had the key as of Session 37).
