Neferet
Summary
Neferet is a powerful Greater Mummy spellcaster whose tomb is located off the Great Hall. She wears Thothian robes and a magic circlet (the Iron Circlet of Ghanor, a piece of Lady Alexia’s Regalia). In Sessions 42a–42b, the Right for Riches company fought her but failed to defeat her — she escaped through the dispel corridor into the Tower of Scrutiny, where she was last located approximately ten yards northwest of the entry point.
Status: At large. Not defeated.
Identity
- Her sarcophagus is labeled in Mithric: “Neferet, Beloved of Thoth”, with a picture of a woman on the lid.
- Was a High Priestess who demanded the relocation of a special library’s contents to her residence.
- Bastet’s avatar (when asked) had no idea who Neferet was.
Known Abilities & Equipment
- Blink — her primary evasion tool; used repeatedly to escape melee attacks and fire.
- Darkness — cast over half the room to blind most opponents.
- Invisibility (Beads of Invisibility) — used to disappear while maneuvering.
- Force Beads (Beads of Force) — thrown to create spheres of force trapping opponents or blocking pursuit; threw at least three during the battle.
- Command — used to compel Chrysalis to flee on a critical success (temporarily; Ioannes’s Bravery spell fixed it).
- Flame Jet — used to burn spider webs blocking her escape route.
- Explosive Fireball — began charging one to hurl at Vael, but had to drop it to Blink away from Chrysalis.
- Resist Fire — maintained throughout the entire fight (players never realized; she pretended to be hurt by fire to encourage continued fire usage).
- Has at least two Shadows as servants.
- Has lesser mummies guarding her sarcophagi.
- Wears the Iron Circlet of Ghanor (Thothian circlet, magical).
The Battle (Sessions 42a–42b)
Phase 1 — Neferet’s Tomb (Session 42a)
- Hidden behind an illusory western wall in her tomb chamber.
- Blinded Chrysalis (and failed to blind Thronebreaker) with an early spell.
- Threw Force Bead #1 at four visible opponents, trapping Thronebreaker, Uvash, Mariposa and one shadow.
- Cast Darkness over southern half of the room.
- Swallowed an Invisibility Bead to turn invisible while maneuvering.
- Threw Force Bead #2, damaging Chrysalis.
- Was pushed back into the entrance hallway by Vael’s Shape Fire maneuvering.
Phase 2 — Hall and Pursuit (Session 42b)
- Began charging Explosive Fireball while only Vael was visible and free.
- Was forced to abandon Fireball when Vael used Blink Other to free Chrysalis, who immediately closed with her.
- Burned her mana reserves with repeated Blink spells as Chrysalis kept pursuing.
- Used Command on Chrysalis (critical success) to make her flee — temporary reprieve.
- Escaped through the Dispel Magic corridor into the Great Hall.
- Used another Invisibility Bead upon entering the Great Hall.
- Fired Flame Jet to burn spider webs blocking the passage to the southwest.
- Threw final Force Bead to block the narrow hallway and delay pursuit.
- Retreated up spiral staircases through the level above the Great Hall, into the Tower of Scrutiny.
- Last known location: approximately 10 yards northwest of the western spiked door in the Tower of Scrutiny, not moving.
Current Status
Vael used Seeker followed by Trace and confirmed Neferet was in the Tower of Scrutiny as of the end of Session 42b, but the party was forced to retreat due to a wraith swarm before they could reach her. She was recovering her mana. As of Session 43a, the party chose to leave the Neferet situation temporarily in order to invade the Forum of Set.
Loot / Items of Interest
- The Iron Circlet of Ghanor she wears is a piece of Lady Alexia’s Regalia, which the party is actively seeking.
